 The TECO Program

The TECO Program (Training, Education, Community Orientation)

The TECO Program is designed to serve developmentally disabled adults, ages 22-85. Educate, Experience and Expose are the steps taken to achieve community integrations.

 Individual Skills Training

signal[1].gifThis department currently has 17 Skills Instructors who specialize in individualized one-on-one training for the Adult Day Training Program. What may seem like small accomplishments to some, this program instills independence and pride in the individuals that participate here. This program bestows the confidence and abilities to be part of the community in which they live. (Read More)

    

 Activities Department

th_NewBitmapImage2[1].jpgThe Activities program is designed to expose the individuals served by AFI to positive learning experiences, instruct and help them achieve their personal goals. They are encouraged to try new things and take pride in their work and creativity. The Activities department is not only about arts and crafts, it also involves social skills such as excepting responsibility for our words and actions, settling disputes, accepting people and their differences, respecting others, problem solving and following rules.  Contracts Vocational Skills Training

The primary goal for our services is to provide each individual with the knowledge, practice and experience to be independent adults so they can become contributing members of their community.

th_job2[1].jpgMany of the developmentally disabled adults today are traditionally unemployed but can be trained to be employable given the opportunity. Specialized training and support services assist these adults to realize their maximum potential. (Read More)
 

    

 Adult Basic Education (ABE)

th_Bosa[1].jpgThere are three Adult Basic Education (ABE) program teachers at Alliance for Independence that are provided by the Polk County School Board.

The Adult Basic Education program for adults with developmental disabilities provides specialized educational courses of learning. Reading, writing, math, work-related skills, employability skills, computer skills, and life skills are some of the many curriculum topics available. (Read More)

    

 The Token Store

th_shoppingbags[1].jpgThe Token store shopping has become a much anticipated event for the individuals served by AFI each Wednesday. Each day of attendance, every goal achieved results in a token that is exchanged for goods in the store. For many, this is the only way they can afford to purchase birthday or holiday gifts for their family. Some even use the layaway plan. (Read More)
